CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoists an 82-year-old man from the stern of a 41-foot Utility Boat approximately 17 miles south of Matagorda Bay, Oct. 14, 2011.
Watchstanders at Sector Corpus Christi received a report at approximately 9 a.m., that an 82-year-old man aboard the Cache, a 50-foot sailing vessel, suffered a head injury and required immediate medical assistance.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard medevaced an 82-year-old man from a sailing vessel approximately 17 miles south of Matagorda Bay, Friday.
Watchstanders at Sector Corpus Christi received a report at approximately 9 a.m., that an 82-year-old man aboard the Cache, a 50-foot sailing vessel, suffered a head injury and required immediate medical assistance. Station Port O'Connor launched a 41-foot Utility Boat and crew at approximately 9:10 a.m. Air Station Corpus Christi launched an MH-65 Dolphin and crew at approximately 10 a.m.
The UTB crew located the Cache and successfully transferred the man off the sailboat.
Once onscene, the helicopter crew hoisted the injured man from the UTB and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services at Victoria Regional Airport.
"The sailboat crew did a good job of providing first aid until we were able to get on scene," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Hernandez, the coxswain of the UTB. "This is a prime example of how being a prepared mariner and using VHF-FM marine channel 16 can help the Coast Guard to quickly and safely provide assistance to mariners in distress."
