Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 7, Station South Padre Island mark 70th anniversary |

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas- Coast Guard Station South Padre Island and members of Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 7 celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, June 23, 2009. The celebration took place at the small boat station. The Coast Guard Auxiliary's performance has been stellar, and reflects their spirit of patriotism and dedication to the Coast Guard. Nationwide, over the past 10 years, the Coast Guard auxiliary has completed:
"The local (Port Isabel) Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla is an extension of Station South Padre Island. Their dedicated volunteer service has certainly bolstered the community's knowledge of boating safety and provided awareness of other Coast Guard missions. I am honored to have these citizen sailors as my Coast Guard shipmates," said Lt. Mickey Lalor, Station South Padre Island commanding officer. The Coast Guard takes tremendous pride in calling these volunteer guardians out shipmates, knowing that their devotion to duty and pride have given us valuable support. The auxiliary was awarded the Coast Guard Unit Commendation as part of its 70th anniversary celebration at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington D.C.
