Coast Guard medevacs crewmember from bulk carrier

MOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard medevaced a crewmember from a bulk cargo carrier approximately 60 miles south of Mobile in the Gulf of Mexico, Monday, June 29, 2009.

The Coast Guard's Atlantic Area Navigation Center relayed the request for a medevac from the 623-foot bulk carrier, Kite, to Coast Guard Sector Mobile at approximately 10 a.m.

Sector Mobile launched a MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans at 10:43 a.m.

The MH-65C and crew arrived on scene at 1 p.m., and transported the crewmember to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.  

The condition of the crewmember is unknown.
