PORT ARTHUR, Texas - A brown pelican that was recovered during oil spill response operations in Port Arthur is released Feb. 3, 2009, near the Old River Wildlife Management Area after the bird was cleaned and rehabilitated. Since the beginning of the response, Jan. 23, 2009, four birds have been released and two remain under care. Oiled wildlife recovered during an incident are given time to rest, then are washed, dried, warmed, fed and medicated as needed. Wildlife Response Services (www.wildliferesponse.net) is providing the rehabilitation for animals affected by the spill. U.S. Coast Guard photo. |
