Coast Guard crews assist two men after boat sinks

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Coast Guard assisted two people after their 19-foot commercial oyster boat sank 10 miles northeast of Rockport, Monday.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor received a call from the cell phone of one of the men at 3:44 p.m. reporting that their boat had sunk after taking on water.

Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi launched an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew to the scene.  Station Port O’Connor also dispatched a 24-foot rescue boat crew. The helicopter crew arrived on scene to find both men standing in waist deep water.  Due to the shallow water depth, the rescue boat crew was unable to reach the men.

The helicopter rescue crew hoisted both men and transported them to awaiting family members at Rockport Aransas County Airport.

No injuries were reported.
