Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to hold change-of-command

BACKGROUND: Coast Guard Cmdr. Frederick C. Riedlin is scheduled to relieve Capt. Edward J. Cubanski in a formal change-of- command ceremony.

Riedlin comes to New Orleans from Hawaii, where he served as the executive officer of Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point.  He managed of 250 personnel in execution of missions ranging from search and rescue, fisheries enforcement, law enforcement and environmental protection for the largest area of operations in the Coast Guard.

Cubanski served as commanding officer of air station New Orleans from 2008 to 2010.  During his tenure, the Air Station responded to hurricanes Gustav and Ike, the Red River flooding in Fargo, N.D., Tropical Storm Ida, the earthquake in Haiti, the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill, and conducted more than 500 search and rescue cases.  Cubanski will transfer to the Coast Guard Eighth District in New Orleans to serve as chief of incident management.
