BELLE CHASSE, La. – Scott Labak, a U.S. Coast Guard civilian fishing vessel safety instructor, demonstrates the steps involved with lighting a flare to a group of Vietnamese and Cambodian fishermen here, today. The Coast Guard provided a boating safety course for the fishermen, with Coast Guard Lt. Thao V. Nguyen translating the training into Vietnamese while civilian Tam Nguyen translated it into Cambodian. “Most of them don’t know how to light a flare, or depoly a liferaft, said Coast Guard Lt. Thao V. Nguyen. KENNER, La. (May 21, 2005) - Coast Guard Auxiliarist Dan Hall, 62, of La Place, La., affixes an inspection decal today to a recreational pleasure boat to signify that it was inspected by the Auxiliary and conforms to federal safety requirements.
